DGDC made an investment of RD$236 million in social programs

Santo Domingo.- The General Directorate for Community Development (DGDC) made an investment of 236 million 378 thousand 155 pesos during 2022, which positively impacted more than 40 thousand 700 poor people through its social programs that it carries out throughout the country.

The general director of the entity, Eléxido Paula Liranzo, explained that this number of people are part of 8,379 households in 673 communities that benefited from the comprehensive assistance plans that the institution executes.

In this regard, he stated that the social programs developed by the DGDC during the year just ended in rural and suburban communities included medical operations, fumigation days, distribution of drinking water, delivery of mattresses and mosquito nets, sanitation of ravines, cleaning of rivers and beaches, reconstruction of homes, delivery of medical supplies, social aid, and distribution of raw and cooked food.

“Educational programs were also implemented in various areas of technical-vocational training, and sports and cultural activities, as well as the construction of community infrastructure works, among them; home repairs and finishes, ”he highlighted.

The official also reported that the executions of these community development programs were implemented in the provinces of Santiago, Santo Domingo, Sánchez Ramírez, San Cristóbal, La Vega, San Pedro de Macorís, Pedernales, Duarte, Hato Mayor, Barahona, Monte Cristi , Monte Plata, Elías Piña, Bahoruco, Independencia, Puerto Plata, La Romana, El Seibo, San José de Ocoa, Valverde, La Altagracia, Dajabón, Espaillat, Hermanas Mirabal, María Trinidad Sánchez, Peravia, Samaná, and San Juan, projects raised in the National Development Strategy -END – 2030-.

He added that these actions were carried out within the framework of the fulfillment of the presidential goals of the government of President Luis Abinader, “and the institutional goals of the DGDC, which aim to significantly improve the living conditions of Dominican families living in vulnerable areas.

Similarly, Paula Liranzo highlighted the relaunch of the regional and provincial offices in the institution to provide better services in the communities, as well as the renovation of the physical plant of the DGDC headquarters in the National District.

He highlighted the signing of eight inter-institutional agreements made by the General Directorate of Community Development with the same number of state agencies, such as the Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Public Works and Communications, Economic Canteens, Essential Medicines Program and Logistics Support Center (PROMESE/CAL), the National Directorate for the Promotion and Development of Crafts (FODEARTE), the Price Stabilization Institute (INESPRE), National Health Insurance (SENASA), and the National Council for Climate Change.

For his part, Diostene Peguero, in charge of the Planning Department of the DGDC, reported that in 2022 this institution continued to implement comprehensive promotion actions and the formation of community organizations and groups with territorial, social, cultural and economic purposes in more than 300 rural and suburban communities, with the purpose of organizing and guiding their community leaders in the formulation of all kinds of projects.

He said that the DGDC is the institution responsible for implementing the National Program for Sustainable Community Development that is deployed from its 29 lines of community actions, so in 2022 it continued to develop new initiatives through its six strategic axes, which include Community Organization , Education, Social Assistance, Infrastructure and production and training work carried out at the Integral Development Center-CDI-, Yamasá municipality, Monte Plata Province.
