During 2024, the Dominican Republic, through the General Directorate of Public Procurement (DGCP), offered technical assistance to five countries in the region in public procurement and participated in important international forums that promoted the exchange of experiences with counterparts.
The Dominican experience in innovation and use of data science, the implementation of due diligence, the sustainable and inclusive purchasing model and transparency, were some of the topics of interest in countries such as Colombia, Honduras, Peru, Guatemala and Ecuador.
This exchange of good practices has been a fundamental pillar of the agenda promoted by the Inter-American Government Procurement Network (RICG) for the period 2023-2024, under the presidency and leadership of the general director of the DGCP, Carlos Pimentel.
As part of its international cooperation work, in May the DGCP received a delegation from the National Public Procurement Agency Colombia Compra Eficiente, headed by its director Cristóbal Padilla, to learn about the operation of the Dominican model that prioritizes the participation of historically excluded sectors in public procurement processes.
During his visit, tools for the inclusion of MSMEs and sustainability policies that could be replicated in Colombia were discussed. While in July authorities from the Regulatory Office of Contracting and Acquisitions of the State of Honduras explored various aspects of the Dominican system.
