Punta Cana, La Altagracia.- After extensive intelligence work, and focused on combating illicit trade, the General Directorate of Customs (DGA) announced the seizure of a million-dollar shipment of electronic devices, which intended to enter the country irregularly .
The confiscation found has an estimated value of 22 million pesos, which was carried out through an operation led by members of the Operations Division of the General Security Supervisory Office of the DGA, at the facilities of the Punta Cana International Airport. , where 14 sacks containing cell phones, tablets, iPads and other electronic devices were found.
It indicates that the stash came from the city of Miami, Florida, under a tax assessment that indicated that the shipment contained clothes, shoes, displays, mannequins, among other clothing.
The DGA officers detained the driver of the truck, where the shipment was found, as well as two alleged employees of the importing company who were accompanying him, for investigation purposes. The suspects, whose names are withheld for investigation purposes, were referred to justice, at the request of the Public Ministry.
In recent months, the General Directorate of Customs has detected and prevented various attempts to smuggle illicit goods, reaffirming its commitment to combat illegal transfer, committed to the transparency and efficiency of its management.
