The Public Security Secretariat of the Federal District (SSP/DF) prepared a special security scheme for this Thursday (8), the date that marks three years since the coup acts of January 8, 2023, when supporters of former president Jair Bolsonaro, unhappy with his electoral defeat, invaded and vandalized the headquarters of the Three Powers, trying to depose the new government and force a military intervention in the country.
According to the ministry, security at Praça dos Três Poderes was reinforced with an integrated operation between police agencies. The objective is to expand monitoring and sharing of information, reduce response time and enhance preventive actions. The DF Military Police (PMDF) installed a command and control structure and reinforced the overt policing force, keeping specialized troops ready for eventual deployment.
There will be interventions on the access roads and any detours or blockages will be subject to the assessment of need and risk. Monitoring may include approaches and searches of backpacks. All attendees will undergo accreditation before accessing the event venue. The DF government recommends that anyone who wants to participate in the events arrive as early as possible to avoid queues.
The isolation of the Esplanade, also under the responsibility of the PMDF, will take place from 00:01 until the end of the event. All monitoring of the central area of Brasília is being carried out by the Brasília Integrated Operations Center (CIOB/SSP-DF), in conjunction with public security forces.
To remember the three years since the coup attempt, special events will be held in the federal capital. At Palácio do Planalto, for example, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva participates in a ceremony with authorities and civil society representatives in the morning. Screens outside the building have already been set up.
The Federal Supreme Court (STF) also prepared a special program within the “Unshaken Democracy” campaign. THE schedule includes the opening of an exhibition, the screening of a documentary, a conversation with journalists and a debate table.
