New free zone in Colonia del Sacramento will employ about 1,000 people
President Lacalle Pou attended the start of construction of the new free zone in Colonia, whose wooden building will consist of 11,000 square meters, of which 8,600 will be leasable, and will generate 1,000 jobs. “A free service zone ties the bow to what you think about the country, what you dream of, and also what you put your shoulder to every day of your life,” he said. In addition, he toured the works of +Colonia.
“We believe that it is an important push, not only for Colonia, but for the country,” said Lacalle Pou. At the event he was accompanied by the president of the National Ports Administration (ANP), Juan Curbelo; the Undersecretary of Economy and Finance, Alejandro Irastorza; the mayor of Colonia, Carlos Moreira; the national director of Free Zones, Ana Alfie; and the partner of Zona Franca del Plata, Francisco Ravecca.
The president expressed that the creation of this first free zone on the country’s coast will employ many people and will collaborate with the migration necessary for the country.
Likewise, he highlighted the work of the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF), through the National Directorate of Free Zones, which studied the project for the installation of the space in Colonia, given that the tax and financial aspects require special care at the time. to grant permission to install these spaces.
“There is a completed study of the request. “It is far from being a blank check,” he stressed.
In that sense, he maintained that financial aspects, economic sustainability, career and business resume, among other elements, operate in these decisions.
Lacalle Pou considered that the venture will generate economic benefits and profit, that it will produce a spillover in terms of employment, it will generate prosperity and quality of life due to the care of the environment present in its construction materials.

The President of the Republic, Luis Lacalle Pou, toured the works of +Colonia, a construction project that seeks the installation of a city on a 515-hectare property located 800 meters from the city’s port. “What there is is a future with a present. At the present time, investments are being made, lots are being sold,” said the president, regarding the proposal, in statements to the press.
The work aims to attract entrepreneurs, emerging and traditional companies, and investors, in order to promote development based on the knowledge economy, well-being and sustainability. The facilities foresee the use of 97% of energy based on renewable sources.
