Residents of Petrópolis, in the mountainous region of the state of Rio, who lost their documents in the tragedy caused by heavy rain since Tuesday (15), can count from today (18) on a Detran service, set up in the city to to speed up the obtaining of identity cards and a duplicate driver’s license.
The service will be done in two points. At Sesc Quitandinha, from today until Sunday (18th, 19th and 20th) there will be a temporary post in premises provided by the Trade Federation, from 9 am to 4 pm, for identity and driver services.
The other place is at Colégio Estadual Rui Barbosa, in Alto da Serra. This is the neighborhood with the highest number of victims of landslides. There, the service will be done tomorrow and Sunday (19th and 20th). The hours will also be from 9 am to 4 pm and the resident will be able to have civil identification services, such as the first and second copies of the identity card.

In addition, two Detran vans will circulate through the shelters to pick up people who need documents and take them to the two service points. The registration of residents who will need the new documents will be done through a partnership between the Detran and the Petrópolis Social Assistance Department.
The Detran action plan was prepared yesterday with directors of the department during the visit of the agency’s president, Adolfo Konder to the city. In a meeting with the municipal secretary of Social Assistance of Petrópolis, Karol Serqueira, the partnership between the two bodies was agreed.
“In all, the Detran will use 50 employees in the operation to help victims of Petrópolis. Part of them will be sent from Rio de Janeiro and the other part already works at the agency’s posts in Petrópolis and surroundings”, informed Konder.
