Despite the rains, Santiago remains calm

Santiago.- Despite the constant rains, this province remains calm and the relief agencies are vigilant in the face of any eventuality, the director of Civil Defense and spokesman for the National Emergency Commission in this city said this morning.

Francisco Arias said that the Civil Defense is visiting the vulnerable areas with the first response teams, verifying the condition and proper functioning of the different search and rescue tools, equipment and accessories.

The places considered as vulnerable areas under observation are the Cañada del Diablo, Vuelta Larga, El Fracatán de Nibaje, Cañada Los Salados and the entire length of the Gurabo stream, the Pontezuela river, the Jacagua river, Cañada de Baldón, the Arroyo Nibaje and Hoyo de Elías, among others.

The Civil Defense has instructed the population to be attentive to possible rain, to reports from the authorities, such as Onamet and Civil Defense, to report any situation through the 9-1-1 emergency numbers, among others.

Arias said that all Police units are available to be activated, supervising and monitoring the situation from their different areas of responsibility.
