Despite delays, more than 55 thousand passports were completed in December

The Ministry of Foreign Relations revealed that, as of December 29, 2021, 55,680 passports were issued in BogotáThanks to the daily scheduling of previous appointments, in contrast, 18,020 passports had been issued in December 2020.

During this year there were constant complaints from users who presented difficulties when issuing this document.

But nevertheless, from the Chancellery they invited citizens to attend the appointments that they themselves schedule, since the absence prevents another citizen from doing their paperwork.

Faced with this, It is important to note that about 30% of the people who requested appointments to get their passport, did not show up. During the last month, more than 27 thousand citizens did not attend their appointment, “warned the Foreign Ministry.

Regarding the delivery of passports, the procedure will be carried out at the same location where the processing was carried out, from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm and does not require a prior appointment. Faced with this issue, the Foreign Ministry insists on the importance of collecting the document, since to date there are more than 24 thousand unclaimed passports.

For this start of In 2022, the expansion in the number of service modules will continue and it is currently working to expand the number of appointments to be offered in the Bogotá offices. Before the pandemic there were 40 modules, now there are 69 available and it is expected to expand this number in the coming weeks.

How does the daily scheduling work?

Citizens can request, starting at 5:00 pm, the appointment for the next business day. For example, on Tuesday they can request appointments for Wednesday, Wednesday the Thursday and so on. Approximately 3,700 appointments are being set up daily for the headquarters, calle 53 and North.

This daily scheduling does not take more than two minutes, it does not require processors, and it is done through the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for free.

Likewise, since last December 16, the Vice President and Chancellor, Marta Lucía Ramírez, signed Resolution 7421 which suspends provisionally and for a period of one year, the obligation to change the passport when the minor reaches seven years of age or reaches the age of majority, established in literal h of article 15 of Resolution 6888 of 2021, in order to facilitate the process for minors and their parents.
