Debts with pharmacists “are paid, there is no problem”, but regardless of debts, these companies have to comply with the contracts established with the federal government and deliver the medicines on time, said President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo.
In his press conference, yesterday said that “there are talks with all companies to see the way the debts are going to be resulted, especially 2024, because there are still some payments that have to be made.”
But, he stressed, when a tender is won, “you commit” with delivery times and “you have to fulfill the contract that you established with any of the health institutions, regardless of debt.”
He stressed: “Yes, they are going to pay, but they also have medication delivery times.”
The president also insisted that the supply to health centers and hospitals is above 90 percent.
On “those medications that have not reached the beneficiaries, the situation has to do with these companies that have not fulfilled their delivery … in case a medicine is missing, there are schemes to complete it.”
He said that there are “many medications that do not occur in Mexico and today in the world the main producers, (also) of medical supplies, are in India and China.”
He added that “that is what is going to be tender next year and a greater rating is being given to those who have plants in Mexico, even if it is not the medication that is acquired, to strengthen the Mexico Plan.”
India, the great input producer
He said that 80 percent of the bases to make medications of the most common are in India; Then, it has to be imported directly or through a Mexican company that is dedicated to it.
“There is seen in the tender, manufacturers were prioritized against distributors.”
Therefore, he added, “there are many medications that are imported”, and a Cofepris permit (Federal Commission for Protection against Health Risks) is required to be able to guarantee that they meet all the requirements of health regulation in Mexico. “
He affirmed that not only a resolution of a bid for prices is given, but that certain conditions have to be complied with.
