When you see women wearing scarves, caps or wigs, you don’t have to ask them anything. They have cancer, and from their sad, withered faces it is clear that they are not having a good time. Your joy is gone, you have no interest in anything. I stopped putting on makeup, what for?said Caritina, 64, who has been fighting the tumor in her breast since last November.

He has two chemotherapy sessions and six to go. His hair has already fallen out, and his eyebrows and eyelashes are about to go away. This is how she arrived yesterday at the Support Center for Comprehensive Care of the National Institute of Cancerology (Incan), where she participated with 14 other patients in a make-up course.

In addition to medical treatment and monitoring of their general health conditions, the Incan authorities collaborate with civil organizations and the private sector to accompany women in other areas, in order to motivate them so that cancer does not become an obstacle to that they feel good, attractive, safe and happy.

The National Chamber of the Cosmetic Products Industry (Canipec) sponsored this activity on the occasion of International Women’s Day (March 8). Although this time coincided, this work of social responsibility has been carried out for 10 years in Mexico. In that time, more than 3,000 women have participated, explained Giselle Segovia, director of the Luzca Bien…Feel Better program.

The patients were accommodated in two tables; each one received a case with creams, cosmetics and a scarf. How good it was today, because the past days I was in depressioncommented Karla Jennifer, 29 years old and a breast cancer that surprised her last year.

A gynecologist removed some fat pellets which turned out to be a malignant tumor.

The young woman is already the mother of an 11-year-old boy, and after 13 chemotherapy sessions, she affirms that with the exception of nausea – which lasts three days after each application – she is fine, she is hungry. But the emotional hurts more than the physical. She lost her hair and has no eyebrows or eyelashes. I try to do makeup and I wanted to take a coursehe commented.

The participants followed the instructions to use the different products donated by the companies affiliated with Canipec. First facial cleansing, hydration, sunscreen and then makeup.

For some it was an easy task because they practice it daily, but in the workshop some realized that they had done it wrong or with a technique that did not take advantage of cosmetics. They all learned something new over the course of almost two hours, in which they talked to each other, laughed, helped and advised on what they were doing.

They forgot everything to focus on them and the transformation was magical. They came out radiant and confident: Let’s go on and beat cancer.
