Designer Virgil Abloh, Louis Vuitton’s director of men’s collections, has passed away

Paris, France | AFP | The American Virgil Abloh, stylist and artistic director of the men’s collections of the Louis Vuitton house, died this Sunday at the age of 41, a victim of cancer, announced the LVMH group, the mother house of Louis Vuitton.

“The LVMH group, the House of Louis Vuitton and Off-White have the immense pain of announcing the disappearance of Virgil Abloh, defeated this Sunday, November 28, by a cancer that he had been fighting for several years,” LVMH declared on Twitter.

Bernard Arnault, president of the group, declared himself “shocked” and praised the work of “a brilliant designer, a visionary”, but also “a beautiful soul and a man of great wisdom”.

Abloh’s illness had not been made public.

The first great black designer, committed to affirming African-American cultures, Abloh reached one of the most coveted positions in the world of fashion in 2018.

King of luxury “streetwear”, in recent years he has become one of the most popular designers among the “millennial” public, with his sweatshirts printed with a very recognizable logo, made up of oblique black and white stripes, and also thanks to successful collaborations with Nike, Jimmy Choo and Moncler, among others.
