The case of the minor under 8 years old with 25 weeks of gestation has caused a stir in the country, and around this issue, the independent deputy, Gabriel Silva, reaffirmed his interest and that of several of his colleagues to have laws in Panama for the non-prescription of crimes of sexual abuse of minors.
He revealed that more than two and a half years ago, he presented his first bill before the plenary session of the National Assembly for the non-prescription of these crimes and that they can be investigated, no matter how much time passes, however, it was vetoed by the president. Laurentino Cortizo.
“When the project was being discussed in the second debate, several deputies began to put different husks and goals into the project, some that benefited them being a great goal, and that is sadly what happens a lot in the Assembly. There is a good project, with a good intention and some living people begin to put things into it to benefit themselves or their relatives. I think the veto thing was fine because the president prevented certain abuses and benefits from becoming a reality,” he explained.
Silva also commented that he presented a sexual education project, which was signed by some deputies, but is still pending the first debate.
As for the upcoming elections, he said that good people have to unite to change the course of the country. “I will be supporting everyone that has to do with free application at the national level. What I am not willing to do is alliance or work in teams for convenience, ”she specified.
