Deputy manages drones to reduce theft and transfer of cars from Chile to Bolivia

The Chilean independent deputy Sebastián Videla Castillo, in contact with the program ¡Qué semana!, of EL DEBER Radio, indicated that he manages with the government of his country the implementation of drones, and balloons with camerasto reduce vehicle theft.

Videla expressed his alarm because a Chilean media had discovered that elements of the Bolivian police are involved in this crime, but he stated that it is a problem that must be resolved jointly.

The parliamentarian pointed out that the problem of vehicle theft in Chile and its sale with alleged police protection in Bolivia “has gained relevance with the report issued by Meganoticias, but it has been increasing, it has been going on for a long time, I have denounced it on several occasions for truck theftcars and other types of borders”.

The Chilean government admitted the lack of control in Chile. The Chilean parliamentarian highlighted that, “As seen in the report, a Santa Cruz vehicle theft prevention director (Diprove) is involved. There is evidence that officials even ask for money to transact a stolen vehicle in Chile. The truth, here (in Chile) there are many irregular steps, where not only motorized vehicles pass, but also people. There are the coyotes, the smugglers, who help human trafficking, there were deaths from this situation. I have evidenced it in my campaign”.

The Antofagasta radio portal broadcast in the last few hours a video in which first, from a helicopter, and then on the ground, Carabineros de Chile they discover ten trucks hidden in ravines in the middle of the Atacama desert, 140 kilometers inside Baquedano.

Videla Castillo pointed out that the response of both countries must be to use more technology to detect and confront these criminals who are dedicated to stealing vehicles and taking them to Bolivia. “In fact, a person very close to me had his vehicle stolen a little less than a month ago. We activated the protocols and they found him in Calama, the thieves had overturned and we managed to recover the motorized vehicle that was going to his country (Bolivia) in very bad conditions. This happens on a daily basis and it is good that action is now being taken.”

When asked about the incidence of vehicle theft in Chile, the parliamentarian pointed out that more serious than that is that a stolen vehicle had been found in Antofagasta, as the Meganoticias report points out, in the house of a Bolivian police chief, former border director in Uyuni, Lieutenant Colonel Raúl Cabezas.

He plans to monitor the work of both police forces so that this does not continue to happen. He did not want to answer the question of whether the Bolivian Police is seen from Chile as an ideal ally to carry out this task, “but from my point of view I can say that we have to work together. I invite the Bolivian police if I can be a bridge of connection and dialogue, I make myself available”. He highlighted the importance of working together.

He has proposed a border police, not only on the border with Bolivia, but also in others such as Peru, where criminal acts are also carried out.

Crime must stop, to prevent both countries from what happens in Mexico, where one cannot even leave the street. “There is a lot of work being done in Chile, because it has increased in my country. Not only vehicle theft, but drug trafficking, delinquency, human trafficking, arms trafficking,” he asserted.

He revealed that this Friday he was with the Chilean Minister of the Interior at the Palacio de La Moneda, in Santiago. “I promised her to invest more in drones for the border, balloons with cameras so that people can be given greater security, and I even told him that on my visit to the border I was able to verify that the Chilean police officers do not have cameras. This, I even told the President, cannot happen”.

He considered that the measures are taken, he hopes that it will be fast, and he promised that in a couple of weeks he will return to the border line to see how progress has been made in this case. “The military also have no conditions.”

Finally, he admitted that the Chilean media have given very little importance to this issue. In the last week the case denounced by Meganoticias did have repercussions. “The media should give more coverage to this issue. The chains do not give the necessary coverage to what happens at the border. One person on my team is Bolivian.”
