The Constitution and Justice Committee (CCJ) of the Chamber of Deputies has a new president. He is deputy Leur Lomanto Júnior, from União Brasil da Bahia. He was elected this Tuesday (10), with 36 votes, achieving a simple majority as provided for in the House’s internal regulations.
Lomanto takes office in place of deputy Paulo Azi (União Brasil-BA), after an agreement between leaders and with the support of the president of the Chamber, Hugo Motta (Republicanos-PB). The command of the committees is renewed every beginning of the legislative session, in February. The president’s term lasts for one year.
The expectation is that the new vice-president of the CCJ will be chosen at the next committee meetings.

6×1 matchday
One of the matters on the committee’s horizon is the one that puts an end to the 6×1 match, forwarded this week by Hugo Mota to the CCJ.
On Monday (9), moments before sending the proposed amendment to the Constitution (PEC) that addresses the matter to the CCJ, Mota said that “Brazil is mature to face the 6×1 scale”.
In an interview after taking office at the CCJ, Lomanto assessed that 2026 will be a challenging year as it is an election year. He confirmed that he had spoken by phone with Hugo Mota, and that, in the conversation, the president of the Chamber asked the commission to prioritize the PEC of the 6×1 journey.
If approved by the National Congress and sanctioned by the Presidency of the Republic, the amendment will allow formal workers two days off per week. Currently, labor legislation provides only one day off for formal workers.
In a speech, Lomanto guaranteed that the CCJ will consult both the private sector and workers throughout the proposal’s progress in the commission.
“Presiding over this commission means ensuring due legislative process, legality, legal technique and respect for institutions and democracy”, said the newly elected president unanimously among the 36 deputies present at this Tuesday’s session.
Composed of 66 deputies and an equal number of substitutes, the CCJ is the gateway for projects into the Chamber of Deputies. The commission is responsible for analyzing issues related to the constitutionality and legislative technique of projects.
