Deputy Gabriel Silva on the sexual education law: ‘In Panama, every day there are 29 pregnant minors’


“This bill seeks to reduce pregnancies in minors, as well as sexually transmitted diseases and reduce sexual abuse, rape,” he specified.

The Plenary of the National Assembly approved this week, in the third debate, Bill 657, which establishes the Training Program on Education in Sexuality and Affectivity.

Said project is an initiative of the independent deputy, Gabriel Silva, who explained that in Panama, every day, 29 minors become pregnant.

“This bill seeks to reduce pregnancies in minors, as well as sexually transmitted diseases and reduce sexual abuse, rape,” he specified.

The deputy stressed that to reduce this, it is through prevention and to achieve this, education is needed.

Said regulation is aimed at learning no less than 40 hours and the training will cover teachers, to ensure the quality of the teaching that will be given in the classrooms.
