Santo Domingo.- The deputy Francisca Jaquٞefor the Modern Revolutionary Party, presented this Tuesday a draft resolution in the Chamber of Deputies that seeks to recommend to the President of the Republic to instruct the Ministry of Public Health and Social Assistance, and the Essential Medicines Program and Central Logistics Support (PROMISE/CAL) to supply in a timely manner the necessary medications for patients suffering from Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s.
The congresswoman explained that the initiative aims to ensure that vulnerable people, especially older adults affected by these diseases, receive the essential treatments to improve their quality of life.
He pointed out that, due to the high cost of drugs, many patients do not have the financial resources to cover them, which causes a progressive deterioration of their health.
Jaque stated that, according to experts, when patients manage to maintain adequate treatment, their condition can stabilize and improve significantly.
Likewise, he reported that, on multiple occasions, of the six required medications, only three were given to him, and furthermore the process to obtain them is extremely complicated. He stressed that several of these medications are not even covered in distribution centers.
The legislator concluded by emphasizing that this is an issue that hits the most sensitive part of society, since it directly affects older adults and families who face the challenge of caring for patients with neurodegenerative diseases.
