José Gregorio Correa pointed out that he met in the morning with the vice president of the CNE, Enrique Márquez, and the rector, Roberto Picón. He explained that he asked the electoral authorities to study the possibility of creating an exploratory technical commission to evaluate the possibility of analyzing, assisting and developing primaries in the Venezuelan opposition, and that it be carried out in two rounds.
In that sense, the parliamentary made it clear that “the two people who obtain the largest number of votes would be the ones who, in a second process two or three weeks later, come to have a representation with legality and legitimacy, which does not leave a speck of doubt as to their condition and confidence in the electorate”.
Along the same lines, he emphasized that this process must be as open as possible in which all sectors that oppose the government have the opportunity to participate. The deputy indicated that so far, there are at least 30 people willing to participate in the upcoming presidential elections, for which he considered it necessary to call a second round
“It is the CNE as the electoral governing body, which must carry out this consultation, and in view of the presidential elections, evaluate the possible scenarios for a commission of electoral experts for said primaries, both in the first round and in the second round, all with a view to the electoral processes of the year 2024, corresponding to the Presidential elections and 2025 of the National Parliamentary elections, always taking into account Venezuelans living abroad, for the purpose of expressing their electoral will,” Correa told the media.
He added that the National Electoral Council is a public entity, that although a group of Venezuelans who said they did not believe in this Electoral Power, but participated in the past regional and municipal elections, well, if you are the ones who are going to hold the presidential elections Why not do the same with opposition primaries?
Finally, Deputy José Gregorio Correa formally requested a hearing with the CNE board, in order to expand the content of this request.
