The head of the San Francisco police zone, Deputy Commissioner Elmer Caballero, referred this Wednesday to the operational actions carried out by the National Police in the Pedregal and Colón sector, where several people allegedly linked to gang activity were apprehended.

He mentioned that this investigation, which was called Operation Libertad, took a couple of months and this Tuesday it was possible to materialize the search procedures.

“In the East Panama sector, 16 raids were carried out and 8 people were apprehended, and more than 25 signs were found that will be used to prove that they belong to these gangs. In Colón, 14 raids were made and more than 10 signs were found ”, he revealed.

He added that the gang called “Los Independientes” operates in San Joaquín, Don Bosco and La Ersa.

“The age range that these gangs recruit ranges from 12 years and the average life span of a gang member can be between 25 and 30 years here in Panama,” said the deputy commissioner.
