Deputy Benicio Robinson warns about malaria outbreak in Bocas del Toro

The deputy, from the Democratic Revolutionary Party, for circuit 1-1 Benicio Robinson alerted about a malaria outbreak within the province of Bocas del Toro.

The parliamentarian and president of the Budget Committee of the National Assembly, said that in the face of this outbreak it is unacceptable for the Ministry of Health (Minsa) to keep six primary care centers closed, even when they have the resources to appoint staff.

Robinson’s concern lies in the fact that the outbreak has occurred in the center of Changuinola and he fears that without timely attention the cases will disperse towards the regional area, for which he urged the vice minister Iveth Berrío to act and that the health centers be reopened.

He stressed that among the health centers that remain closed are those in the communities of La Glorias, El Teribe, El Guabo, Finca 60 and the Buena Esperanza Health Center.

“My annoyance with the Vice Minister of Health is due to the fact that months ago, from the Budget Commission, we supported to obtain approximately 2 million balboas to appoint the personnel who will work in these places, however, to date it has not been a reality and This worsens the health situation that we live in Bocas del Toro, where we are facing a major outbreak of malaria,” he said.

Robinson’s statements were made during the support of a departure transfer to the Ministry of Health in the Budget Commission. In the discussion, tempers heated up to the point that Robinson classified Vice Minister Berrío as disrespectful.

“They chose you, they named you by finger,” Robinson said when telling Berrío that within the parliamentary compound she has to respect him.
