The Chamber of Deputies and Deputies approved the creation of a special investigative commission that will investigate the fires that affected different stations of the Santiago Metro, within the framework of the social outbreak that began on October 18, 2019.
The initiative, which obtained 68 votes in favor, 51 against and 4 abstentions, will be in charge of supervising the acts of the government, especially those of the Ministry of the Interior and Public Security. Likewise, it will analyze the actions of Carabineros de Chile and the board of directors of the company Metro SA
The analysis that the commission will carry out will also have a focus on the administration and management of the information collected by the remote surveillance systems. In addition, the role that the intelligence services of the State and Carabineros de Chile would have had in its use and destination will be investigated.
Regarding the deadlines, the deputies that will make up the instance must submit their report in no more than 90 days. For its operation, the commission may be constituted anywhere in the territory.
Let us remember that within the framework of the social outbreak, seven stations of the Santiago Metro were completely burned down, 18 partially damaged, 93 with multiple damages and 18 were unscathed.
According to the document that requests to create the commission, the previous government presented 21 complaints, of which some civilians were convicted. Similarly, it explains that there were people acquitted after remaining under the precautionary measure of preventive detention for long periods of time.
