Deputies will discuss Massa's resignation on Tuesday and the new authorities will be elected

The president of the Chamber of Deputies, Sergio Massa, announced that he will convene a special session for next Tuesday to discuss his resignation and elect the new head of the legislative body who will complete his term, which expires at the end of December.

The president of the Chamber of Deputies, Sergio Massa, announced that he will convene a special session for next Tuesday to discuss his resignation and elect the head of the legislative body that will complete his mandate, which expires at the end of December.

Massa attended the journalists’ room of the Lower House, after the Government announced that he will be appointed as Minister of Economy, Productive Development and Agriculture and Livestock and Fisheries.

On his succession to the head of the Chamber, Massa reported that he will call a special session for Tuesday to formalize his resignation and elect the new head of the body, who will replace him until December 2023.

When asked about the name of his successor, he said that “it is a decision that corresponds to the Front of All (FdT)”.

In fact, the faction of the ruling party led by Germán Martínez must define who it will propose to succeed Massa, whose name will have to be approved in the special session that will be convened next Tuesday.

Although from the ruling party they do not confirm who will promote as successor or successor of Massa, in the last hours the version began to circulate that the best profiled applicants are Cecilia Moreau; the ex-governor of Tierra del Fuego Rossana Bertone and the entrerriano and current head of the Industry commission, Marcelo Cassaretto.

Parliamentary sources pointed out that the deputy or deputy who assumes as president of the legislative body must have a good link with the opposition blocs, since consensus is required to be able to sanction the laws required by the national government and the FdT has the first minority.

The ruling party has 118 members but 117 votes, because the president of the body does not vote, while Together for Change (JxC) has 116which requires a dozen votes to reach a majority to approve the initiatives, and this is only achieved with the so-called middle parties – the provincial ones or the Federal Interbloc.

The session that will be convened for Tuesday will first deal with Massa’s resignation as deputy and then the proposal of the FdT of the name that will occupy the presidency of the body until December must be defined.

Upon resigning from his bench, he must also assume as his replacement to complete his term as legislator, which expires on December 9, 2023, the young piquetero leader Juan Marino, who is currently an official in the Buenos Aires Ministry of Social Development, led by Andres Larroque .

Prior to going to the journalists’ room -located next to the Presidency-, Massa held meetings throughout the day in his office with the Minister of Transport, Alexis Guerrera, a trusted leader, and the advisers who accompanied him in his mandate as head of the Chamber of Deputies.

Also in recent days, he had been meeting with his team of trusted economists with whom he was analyzing various measures to implement as soon as he became minister, and who have two urgent goals, such as achieving exchange stability and reducing the high inflation registered in the first months of the year to lay the foundations for economic growth.

His main trusted men are the former Minister of Economy Miguel Peirano; the deputy director of the Sustainability Guarantee Fund (FGS), Lisandro Cleri, the current director general of Customs, Guillermo Michel, and Gabriel Delgado, an expert on agricultural issues.

Other current officials who are men of Massa’s permanent consultations are the Secretary of Finance, Eduardo Setti; and Pablo Mayer Carrera, current director of the Central Bank.

In Massa’s team they highlighted today as an important sign that Argentine sovereign bonds shot up to 9% in the first operations that took place this morning.

Also the rise of the Global 2029 bond, which rose to 9.20%, the Global 2030 added 9.285% and the Global 2035 rose 8.72 percent.
