Deputies support reform to guarantee public income to beaches of concessioned sites

The Chamber of Deputies approved a reform so that those who have concessions or permits in maritime-terrestrial federal areas are obliged to guarantee public income to the beaches, and for the Ministry of the Environment to ensure the free step to the protected natural areas of its competence, at least one day a week.

Changes to the General Law of Ecological Balance and Environmental Protection respond to citizen protests through the siege to beaches; For Morena they are another step to “reverse the privatization process” of national goods and companies.

To make the change effective, it was included in a reservation to the opinion of the Tourism Commission to specify that the environment, in coordination with the municipalities, will constitute a National Registry of Entrance to beaches, based on the identification and joint validation of the urban, semi -urban and rural trace.

In Tribuna, Deputy Enrique Vázquez Navarro (Morena) said that for decades the country lived “a silent privatization, and sometimes blatantly open, of the country’s coast, with the excuse of tourism development.”

In that scheme, he highlighted, “walls were raised not only of concrete, but also of intimidation. Hotels, luxury subdivisions and exclusive beach clubs have closed public income to the beaches and turned everyone’s heritage into the privilege of a few.”

The coordinator of the Guinda bench, Ricardo Monreal Ávila, recalled that since the 80s in the country a model was imposed that resulted in a “wild privatization” process, which began to stop since 2018.
