Deputies repeal educational transformation law, passes to the Senate

Chamber of Deputies repeals the European Union financing agreement for the support program for the educational system in Paraguay. The project passes to the Chamber of Senators for its study. Financing has been controversial because, according to conservative social groups, it would be tied to a gender-focused educational transformation plan. The Ministry of Education has denied that the plan has these intentions and the President of the Republic, Mario Abdo Benítez, declared to the media that his government will not promote gender ideology in schools and colleges.

This is the bill “That repeals the validity of law number 6659/20, Approving the financing agreement between the European Union and the Republic of Paraguay for the support program for the transformation of the educational system in Paraguay and its annexes ”. Now the document goes to the Senate for study and consideration.

On the list of speakers, the national deputy for the PLRA, Esmerita Sánchez, affirmed that health and education have become colored. “Health and education should not have colors. We all have the same rights. Education must be transformed. I would like education to distribute the snack from the beginning to the end of the school year and not just for three months, ”she mentioned.

Rocío Vallejo, national deputy for the PPQ, expressed for her part that it is the FEEI that will finance the project and not the European Union as is thought.

“For me it is outrageous that education in Paraguay and the beginning of all problems depend on donations. Decades of Colorado governments that have not cared about education,” she said.

The contribution of the European Union consisted of US$ 38 million that were going to be destined to the budgetary program of the MEC, both for the purchase of school meals, school kits and infrastructure.

US$ 21 million will be used to purchase school kits for 47,000 students. While the remaining US$ 17 million will be used by other State entities.
