Deputies ratify the Board of Directors of the Panama Canal Administration

With conflicting opinions, against and in favor, this afternoon the Legislative Plenary ratified the directors of the Board of Directors of the Panama Canal Authority (ACP), Luis Navas, Laury Melo Alfaro and Dora Pérez Balladares Boyd.

During the discussion of these appointments, the independent deputy Edison Broce assured that both Melo and Balladares had proven affinity with political parties and with the current government, so their arrival at these positions is not due to their own merits.

“The Canal is not just anything, it is a very important source of income for Panama… So it matters a lot who we put on that Board of Directors… We know that there is a very close political affinity with political leaders of the ruling party,” he said, noting that Navas , on the other hand, has the right profile to be in this position

In the Assembly, the Bill 545 that configures the electoral circuits for the election of deputies was also approved in the third debate, with 44 votes in favor, 9 against and one abstention.

With this bill, the electoral circuits of the West Panama Province would go from being 8-1, 8-2, 8-3 and 8-5 to 13-1, 13-2, 13-3, and 13-5 and would correspond to the areas of Arraiján 13-1, Capira 13-2, Chame and San Carlos 13-3 and La Chorrera 13-5.
