They hold the debate, but lose the vote
In the discussion of the ruling, deputies from Morena, the Labor and Green Party (PVEM) argued that the central objective of the decision is the savings of nearly 5,000 billion pesos that are budgeted each year for these self-employed workers.
Another allegation was that “they have not done anything”, that they were the product of “neoliberal” governments and that there is corruption, which they exemplified with a single case: the use of a bank card provided by the INAI to one of its commissioners and was used in a restaurant, in a “table dance,” the legislators accused.
“The rights do not disappear, the activities and rights that each one guarantees do not disappear, they are only transferred to the federal public administration,” explained Morenista Mario Miguel Carrillo.
A constitutionally autonomous body is not a guarantee of protection of citizen rights, alleged retired minister Olga Sánchez Cordero, “the OCAS have not allowed oversight of themselves,” she accused.
Representative Katia Alejandra Castillo Lozano, also from Morena, assured that this reorganization “is not concentrating power in a single person, it is recovering control for the State.”
“The INAI lasted 11 years without being a constitutionally autonomous body and was part of the central government. The Coneval nine years. Cofece has been there for 20 years and in 2014 IFETEL was created,” said PT member Lilia Aguilar Gil, “so all the tragedy they talk about (without OCAS) happened in the PAN government?”
“They are very concerned about who is going to measure and who is going to evaluate the government. Don’t worry, there is already someone who evaluates the government and it is the people of Mexico and they evaluated us and they evaluated you a few months ago,” stated Morenista Gabino Morales.
The opposition accused, above all, the concentration of power, the opacity to come and the return to times of the past where there were no counterweights.
“This euthanasia of the self-employed is an automatic regression,” said Gustado de Hoyos, from Movimiento Ciudadano,
“The supposed savings will be insignificant compared to the serious damage that conflicts with the TMEC caused in terms of investments,” warned representative Verónica Martínez García, of the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI).
María Josefina Gamboa Torales, from National Action (PAN), especially regretted the extinction of the INAI.
“They disappear due to corruption. Yes, but for yours! For having discovered the corruption of this government! Andrés Manuel arrived six years ago, he could well have disappeared from the INAI if he didn’t want to.
“What didn’t seem like it was what they discovered. Here is the data. Thanks to the INAI, the more than 17,000 million pesos of fraud in Segalmex were discovered, the 400 aviators they had (…) in addition to the influence peddling network of Andy and Bobby,” he accused.
