Deputies from 2015 request an impartial investigation into the suicide of Leoner Azuaje

Crimes without Punishment: Azuaje's corpse had injuries to the feet and forearms

The representatives of the AN in 2015 demanded an impartial investigation into the death of Leoner Azuaje, who, according to the Public Ministry, committed suicide while detained at the Sebin headquarters after being accused of corruption. Guillermo Palacios said that the government of Nicolás Maduro intends to “make the death pass off as a suicide with a sheet, when serious signs of torture are derived from the forensic medical examinations.”

Deputies of the National Assembly (AN) in 2015 demanded an impartial investigation into the death of Leoner Azuaje, who according to the attorney general Tarek William Saab, committed suicide while detained at the headquarters of the Bolivarian National Intelligence Service (Sebin), after being accused of corruption.

Deputy Guillermo Palacios (Un Nuevo Tiempo), during the online session of the Delegate Commission this Thursday, April 27, pointed out that trials cannot be carried out without a thorough investigation. He questioned that prosecutor Saab concluded in an hour that the death of Azuaje, who was president of Cartones de Venezuela, was by suicide.

“There is no interest in condemning or prosecuting corruption simply because they are part of it and this has become a State policy. They detain Leoner Azuaje because he is part of an internal group of the political apparatus of the PSUV, of Tarek El Aissami, who is being raided, but it is not because of corruption, nor because they have an interest in protecting the Venezuelan people from these irregular practices,” Palacios said.

He pointed out that the government of Nicolás Maduro intends to “make the death of Leoner Azuaje pass off as a suicide with a sheet, when serious signs of torture are derived from the forensic medical examinations.”

Yajaira Forero, Primero Justicia deputy, an impartial and transparent investigation be initiated by an independent commission and with the help of international experts. She indicated that in Venezuela there is no independence from the powers.

«All powers are kidnapped by those who misrule the country. That is why in this case the Minnesota Protocol applies,” he asserted.

Likewise, Héctor Cordero pointed out that there must be a serious investigation of the facts, “by a commission of forensic specialists to determine the real causes of the death of Leoner Azuaje and whether or not there was torture or inhuman treatment that caused his death.” ».
