Deputies approved a project that prohibits people who committed serious crimes as minors from entering the Police

The initiative, which seeks to modify some of the requirements that are requested to enter the Police, had been presented last year by several deputies from the citizen sector, among them, the deputy for Colonia Nibia Reisch.

The project, which was headed by legislator Felipe Schipani, was analyzed urgently since it was not on the agenda and was approved without the votes of the opposition.

The initiative modifies article 44 of the Police Organic Law, which establishes the requirements for joining the Police. While the original text only requested “prove good behavior”, this project adds “not having been declared responsible as an adolescent as the author, co-author or accomplice of the following infractions of criminal law: intentional commission of the crimes of homicide, especially aggravated homicide, very especially aggravated homicide, serious injuries, very serious injuries, robbery, robbery with deprivation of liberty (crowding), extortion, kidnapping and rape.

Deputy Reisch assured that this change will help to avoid excesses and have greater guarantees in certain cases.

“For us it is not consistent that a 17-year-old person who murdered another can enter the Police Institute,” he added.
