People deprived of liberty exhibit handmade pieces at Expoartesanías through Libera Colombia, highlighting art.
Expoartesanías has a space for a social initiative with the participation of people deprived of liberty and post-penalties through Libera Colombia, the INPEC institutional brand that promotes resocialization processes through art and crafts.
In one of the busiest stands in the pavilion, the Visitors can find unique pieces made by hand, result of stories of transformation that today seek new opportunities.
Artisans and entrepreneurs
Among the exhibitors is Andrés, an entrepreneur who found in painting a route to rebuild his life.
“I make hand-painted items: sneakers, caps, jackets and sweatshirts. I always liked art, but I saw it as a hobby. In prison I was able to delve deeper into that talent, study it and turn it into a real venture.”he told in dialogue with La FM.

Creativity at the Fair
He is part of a group of more than five entrepreneurs who, after serving their sentences, continue strengthening your projects thanks to the spaces that Libera manages for them in fairs and shopping centers.
Andrés explains that his creative process began with simple works on paper, but that in his time of confinement found discipline to professionalize your skill. Upon regaining his freedom, Libera opened doors for him to market your products and maintain your project.

Make Penitentiary Work Visible
To understand the scope of this initiative, Marta Cordón, representative of Libera Colombia, highlights that the brand was born as a instrument to make prison work visible in the country.
“Libera is a registered trademark of INPEC. It commercializes the work of more than 33,000 people deprived of liberty and also accompanies the post-sentence population, promoting second chances and rebuilding social fabric”he explained.
At Expoartesanías, for example, in addition to hand-made objects, Visitors can enjoy a sample of bakery from four prisons in the country and the District Prison, which participate as support networks.
