Deportivo Táchira fans are released from prison, accused of alleged aggression against police

Relatives of Deportivo Táchira fans reported their release after being accused of allegedly attacking a police officer on the Central Regional Highway

This February 4, the release of the Deportivo Táchira fans who had been deprived of liberty since June 2025 was confirmed. The citizens were released under precautionary measures that require them to appear periodically in the city of Caracas, according to reports from their relatives and journalists from Táchira through social networks.

The case dates back to the trip that the group made from the state of Táchira to the UCV Olympic Stadium to witness the final of the Apertura Tournament. Although 29 people were initially detained by the security forces, the judicial process divided the group.

While 24 regained their freedom in the initial stages, five of them remained in prison accused of violence against authority.

Of these five for which information was available, only four appear in the photograph that was spread on social networks. It is unknown if the fifth person was also released or remains in prison.

The Minister of the Interior, Justice and Peace, Diosdado Cabello, indicated – days after the arrest – that the five Deportivo Táchira fans were arrested and charged for allegedly attacking a police officer on the Central Regional Highway.

According to reports from Human Rights organizations such as Provea, the conflict originated from a minor incident in a restaurant in Maracay during the journey. What should have been an everyday situation led to an immediate withdrawal order by a police commission and an alleged confrontation that served as the basis for the arrests.
