Thanks to the three points added at home, Timão now occupies 7th place in the standings with 53 points. Bahia, which is also trying to secure itself in the preliminary phase of the continental competition, ended up in 8th place with 50 points.
Supported by their loyal fans, Corinthians didn’t take long to open the scoring in Itaquera. Just 11 minutes into the first half, Peruvian André Carrillo stole the ball in midfield and passed it to Yuri Alberto, who launched Memphis Depay deep. The Dutchman advanced to the right and hit a cross. The ball ended up deflecting off a Bahia defender and covering goalkeeper Marcos Felipe.
In the 48th minute, Timão’s trio started working again. This time with Depay recovering the ball and passing it to Carillo, who played Yuri Alberto on the right wing. With freedom, the center forward advanced and hit to increase the score.
But the best came in the final stage, when Dutchman Memphis Depay hit a beautiful free kick to beat goalkeeper Adriel (who replaced Marcos Felipe in the first half) and give the scorer final numbers in the 15th minute.
