Departmental Board will pay tribute to Andrés Abt

The Departmental Board of Montevideo will hold an act in tribute to Andrés Abt, former mayor of the CH Municipality, who died on March 12, 2021 due to COVID-19.

The event will take place on Thursday, April 7 at 2:00 p.m. in the Organisation’s Sessions Room.

His wife, Analía Raurich, will participate in the tribute, along with other relatives, friends, colleagues from his political community and other political figures in our country.

Abt had a very outstanding political career as leader of the National Party in Montevideo. He began as a local mayor of the Zonal Community Center 5 of Punta Carretas. He was then elected substitute deputy for Jaime Trobo during the period 2005-2010, and also for Analía Piñeyrúa during 2010-2015.

In the 2015 departmental elections, he was elected mayor of the CH Municipality under the Concertación Party motto, a position he held until the end of his term, in 2020. In the 2019 national elections, he was elected deputy for the 2020-2025 term, having resigned to this position to assume as campaign manager of the candidate for mayor for the Independent Party motto, Ec. Laura Raffo in the face of the 2020 departmental elections, from which he was re-elected as mayor of CH.

Abt passed away early at just 47 years old after contracting coronavirus at the end of February 2021, in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The departmental legislature will recognize his figure in an event that will be open to the public.

The bars of the room will be enabled for the general public and press coverage, in strict compliance with the sanitary measures established by protocol of the Ministry of Public Health.
