Dengue and Chikungunya cases increase in Matanzas, without bazucas necessary to fumigate

Matanzas fights the transmission of dengue In 12 municipalities and Chikungunya throughout the province, but the lack of bazucas and personnel to fumigate complicates the panorama in the midst of growing criticism and complaints in the networks about the health situation.

The territory “does not have the level of bazucas necessary to fumigate intensively in each health area,” said Dr. Rony Lázaro Reyes Sánchez, vice -director of hygiene and vectors, cited by the newspaper Girón.

Personnel scarcity is another obstacle, said the specialist. Of the 1341 necessary workers, there are only 777, which causes “bazucas on the floor for not having the mobilized.”

Meanwhile, Yamira López García, general director of Health, emphasizes that they are not reported dead, but that pediatric income has increased, with children under one year with fever admitted to the hospital, according to protocol.

Dr. Andrés Lamas Acevedo warned for his part with respect to the upward trend of cases, except in Perico, and “the high rate of attack of Chikungunya” due to low immunity, especially in older adults.

“It is important that the investigations be made to see the sick in the houses and define whether it is a home or hospitable income,” he said.

Where everything is “complex”, a “complex epidemiological scenario”

Not only Matanzas faces the complex epidemiological scenario due to a worrying increase in cases of dengue, Chikunguya and Oopouche.

The Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP) confirmed the presence of Dengue and Oroopouche in 12 of 15 provinces, and the expansion of Chikunguya in five of them, according to state media.

The Director of Hygiene and Epidemiology of Minsap, Dr. Francisco Durán, confirmed that the situation with the arbovirosis is “more complex than in previous months” and attributed the increase in transmission to “the rains, heat and accumulation of garbage” in the streets.

Cuba faces a worrying increase in cases of dengue, chikunguya and oropouche

In its weekly update, the specialist explained that the high infestation of the transmitter mosquito, the aedes aegypti, It has caused the number of dengue patients and those admitted to that virus to increase. There are “seven in serious condition”, but not critical.

He recalled that the Chikunguya virus reappeared two months ago in the province of Matanzas and said that right now it is also present in Havana, Pinar del Río, Guantánamo and Santiago.

In the case of Oroopouche, which transmits the Mosquito Cúx and another insect known as Jején, Dr. Durán said that it has also increased, although to a lesser extent than dengue, and commented that it is a disease that “it is” cured without great complications. “

The existence of these diseases occurs in a scenario of deep economic crisis in Cuba, which translates into already infinite sluts serious problems in water supply, lack of elementary products such as food and medicine, among other growing difficulties.
