The TV host and producer, Natalia Denegriassured that his lawsuit against Google does not interfere with freedom of expression “because I do not ask that they delete the videos” of the media scandal of the 90s known as the “Coppola Case” -he explained- but that they be disassociated from his name and respected their “rights and guarantees as a victim of crimes”.
“Perhaps mine will serve as the beginning of a great debate that should take place in Argentina and that is a world trend” on the right to be forgotten and the regulation of internet page search engines, he told Télam.
In that sense, he explained about his case: “It is special because I was the victim of a crime” and the experience is comparable to that of “a person who suffers a robbery or sexual violence who later stands out in professional life and does not want (in the search engine) to always appear first that they were robbed or raped”.
The businesswoman assured that she did not “at all agree” with the sayings of the doctor in Communication Sciences, Martín Becerra, who affirmed that if the Supreme Court of Justice ratifies the decision of the Chamber in the case of Natalia Denegri “You could be setting a very dangerous precedent that opens the door to censorship.”
“I am not asking that the news of the time be erased, but that when I put my name and surname, the videos of the Mauro Viale program that I participated in when I was a minor do not appear, because they do not transmit anything informative or public interest but on the contrary promote gender, media and digital violence, “he said.
The communicator assured that the judicial claim is not based on the so-called “Right to be Forgotten” -which is not yet regulated in the country-, but on Law 27,372 on Rights and Guarantees of Crime Victims that “protects privacy and guarantees the dignified treatment” of these people and “not re-victimize myself”, as well as international laws and treaties on gender violence, childhood and adolescence.
“Being a minor, in 1996 a judge implanted drugs in my home and illegally detained me only because I was a neighbor of a famous person whom he wanted to extort, that is why I later won a lawsuit against the State with two criminal cases. that ratify it,” he said.
“I did not understand what was happening, I was manipulated for a long time.”
And he added: “There is no doubt that the pain and damage they caused me is indelible in the library of my life, but Google is not life, but an entrepreneurial business that is attributed to define what we are by arbitrarily weighing and disseminating information, even false.
In addition, she recalled that she participated in those television programs “when we were in an analog era”, but years later “they arbitrarily moved me to the digital era” by uploading that content to the Internet.
Based in the United States where in the last 10 years she has developed a successful career as a television host and documentary filmmaker, Denegri wondered why even today, when her name is typed in the search engine used by 95% of users, “it defines me by putting as page N #1 those videos”.
“By then, I was very young and after being detained for three days they directly took me to the Mauro Viale program. I did not understand what was happening, I was manipulated for a long time, “ he pointed.
Product of an armed cause and of these television participations in a state of vulnerability, “all my dreams were cut short and lost.”
“I only recovered my ambulatory freedom because I lost my job, my economic support, my privacy and my anonymity. I never asked to be famous, I did not voluntarily go to the media to expose my life and by the time I was illegally detained, countless lies about me had already been published in the media,” she said.
And although Denegri triumphs in the United States, where she has already received 22 Emmy awards for her work as host of the TV program “Warring Hearts” and a series of documentaries projected there, she assures that this was not thanks but in spite of the Coppola Case.
“I had to leave the country to be able to develop professionally, many will say: ‘well she became famous thanks to that’, but in the United States they don’t know about the case and it has nothing to do with what I came to do there, like sponsoring social causes and doing a solidary journalistic program”, he concluded.
