Senator Iván Moreira (UDI) described some members in the Constitutional Convention as a “demonstration of revenge” by generally approving a popular initiative for a standard called ‘Prison for Piñera’, discussed in the Justice Commission.
Through his Twitter account, Moreira pointed out that said approval of the measure is a demonstration of “people sick with hate and madness.” Later he added: “When will the binge end?”
The norm was approved in general by 10 votes in favor, 8 against and one abstention. Now it must be voted on in a particular way within the Justice Commission with the modifications and indications that arise there, to finally go to the Plenary with a second report.
This initiative talks rather about a guarantee of respect for human rights by the President of the Republic; better known as “Prison for Sebastián Piñera” and its article to be integrated into the new Constitution would be as follows: Guarantee of justice and non-repetition, that never again will a president abuse his power and declare war on his own people.
Along these lines, this proposal maintains that “more than two years after the protests that began in October 2019 and the generalized attacks against our people that were demonstrating by the Carabineros de Chile, the investigations for serious violations of human rights and Crimes against humanity”.
“There are more than 8,000 victims of state violence, more than 500 cases of ocular trauma and more than 50 deaths due to state violence. The only person responsible is Sebastián Piñera Echenique, who until now has acted in complete impunity, to this The scandals derived from the Pandora Papers and the revelations about the Dominga mining project are also added within his period.
The document adds that “Sebastián Piñera has political and criminal responsibility, as President of the Republic. He has to answer before the necessary courts, both national and international, for the systematic violation of the human rights of thousands of Chilean compatriots.”
