Since September 5 of this year Democrats is a political party and in that condition it is preparing to elect its departmental directors; On December 15, he will convoke a national congress that will designate the political leadership of the opposition party.

“What we have to do now is internal democratization, there is a resolution of the Supreme Electoral Tribunal that gives us 180 days, therefore, expanded departments are being called to elect the delegates who on December 15 they will elect the board and in this way meet the requirements”, declared the representative of Democrats in Potosí, the former deputy, Gonzalo Barrientos.

On September 5 of this year, the Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE) approved resolution 315/2022 in which they approved the conversion of Democrats from a citizen group to a political party, after having fulfilled all the requirements demanded by the Political Organizations Law regarding the adequacy of statutes.

Will the new party bet on renewal or will it preserve its old leadership? It was the question for the potosino leader and this leaned for a combination on the scaleson one side the renovation and on the other the experience.

“Surely that will be valued in the congress, we consider that there is an important leadership at the national level and a natural renewal. Having a good number of registered members gives us a positive sign that there is enough participation from our militancy (…) we think there has to be a combination between experience and renewal”, Barrientos graphed.

Later he explained that when presenting the books of militants to become a party, he exempted them from re-registering citizens, just as other parties did.

“The National Directorate of Information Technology and Communication of the Supreme Electoral Tribunal, through reports DNTIC-INT No. 0174/2022 of May 19, 2022 and report DNTIC-INT No. 0321/2022 of August 9, 2022 , concluded that the Democrats citizen group fulfilled with accrediting the percentage of 1.5% of the National Biometric Electoral Register, which includes 1% of the Departmental Biometric Electoral Register of at least five departments of the country”, indicates the conclusion of the TSE report.

He then made it known that the new party must have at least 1.5% of members of the entire national electoral roll, needed 109,575 militants, but presented 241,309 militants in the nine departments.

The other rule was to register 1% of militants on the register in each department, in at least five regions. At this point, Democrats achieved the minimum required because they achieved that percentage in the departments of Santa Cruz, Beni, Potosi, Tarija and Pando; it did not reach 1% in the departments of La Paz, Cochabamba, Oruro and Chuquisaca.
