Democrats have raised $12 million through a small fundraising platform after a leaked Supreme Court draft opinion showed the court’s conservative majority was preparing to overturn Roe. v. Wade, the historical precedent that enshrines abortion as a constitutional right.

Act Bluea small donor fundraising initiative that supports Democratic candidates, reported that $12 million had been raised from the time of the leak to today.

Donors supported a wide variety of organizations that support abortion rights. Included were “abortion funds, reproductive justice groups, both large and small, and candidates who will fight the GOP’s efforts to restrict access to abortion,” Act Blue tweeted Wednesday morning.

Abortion rights advocacy organizations eligible for donations on the Act Blue website include affiliates of Planned Parenthood, the Abortion Care Network, and the National Institute for Reproductive Health.

monday night Politician published the draft opinion written by Justice Samuel Alito, which showed that the Court’s conservative majority was prepared to overturn Roe v. Wade. Doing so would leave abortion rights in the hands of individual states. Some already have prohibitions in that sense.

Chief Justice John Roberts indicated the draft was authentic, but said it did not represent the final opinions of the Court.

President Biden on Tuesday called on Americans to vote for pro-choice candidates in the upcoming midterm elections to codify Roe v. Wade in federal law.

Democrats are taking advantage of the leak to attract voters and raise funds for the election. Democrats face an uphill climb in this year’s midterm elections as they seek to maintain slim majorities in the House and Senate.

The president’s party typically loses seats in its first midterm election, and Biden has low approval ratings amid high inflation and rising gas prices.

The DNC website now includes a pop-up for quick donations that reads, “There has never been a more important time to fight for reproductive rights and elect Democrats in every corner of the country who are ready to do the same.” ,
