The United States began at the end of August a wide military deployment in the Caribbean with the argument of fighting drug trafficking, a strongly criticized operation by the ruling party, which considers it a threat and a possible prelude to an attack against Venezuela.
During the last weeks, US forces have destroyed several alleged “narcolancas” in the Caribbean, causing the death of about twenty people. Trump justified the operation by declaring that the country is in an “armed conflict” against drug cartels.
The American administration also accuses Maduro of leading the so -called Los Sol Cartel and offers a 50 million dollars reward for its capture, an accusation that Caracas denies.
