Democratic senator concerned about the possibility of the US carrying out military operations on Cuba

The leader of the Democratic minority in the US Senate, Chuck Schumer, expressed his concern this Wednesday about the responses obtained from the Donald Trump Administration to the possibility of the US also carrying out military operations in countries such as Cuba and Colombia.

Schumer spoke to the media about the briefing he and other lawmakers held at the Capitol with the Secretary of State, Marco Rubioand Guerra’s, Pete Hegseth.

They talked about the recent US military intervention to capture the Venezuelan president, Nicolás Maduro, in Caracas, and the next steps that the White House is considering abroad.

“I asked them if they were planning operations in other countries. And I mentioned some of the ones you mentioned, including Colombia and Cuba. And I was very disappointed in their response,” Schumer replied to a reporter.

“A greater probability of US aggression against Cuba is not good news for the climate of openness that the reforms require”

US President Donald Trump himself has issued direct warnings to his Colombian counterpart, Gustavo Petro, with whom he has had several disagreements and whom he has directly accused of being involved in regional drug trafficking.

That same Saturday, the day of the operation that took Maduro out of bed in less than 24 hours and deposited him in a New York jail to try him for “narcoterrorism,” the Republican said that Petro should “watch his ass.”

That same day, Trump also said that the Government of Miguel Díaz-Canel in Cuba “is about to fall” and that he does not believe that “any action” is necessary on the American part on the island.

“I don’t know how they are going to be able to support themselves, they have no income. They received all their income from Venezuela, from Venezuelan oil,” said the US president.

Marco Rubio himself, of Cuban origin, has been one of the most critical political figures towards the Government of Havana since his time as senator.
