the bench Democratic Peru issued this Sunday a statement rejecting the questions of the Ombudsman, Walter Gutierrez to the Ministerial Cabinet lead by Hannibal Torres. In addition, they urge the Plenary of Congress to prioritize the process of electing the new head of said constitutional body.
In the letter, they describe that Walter Gutiérrez acts “in an irresponsible” and “systematic” manner against the Government of Pedro Castillo.
The parliamentary group’s reply occurs after the Ombudsman’s Office sends a letter requesting the Executive to reconsider recomposing the current ministerial team that was sworn in on February 8.

Another point highlighted in the statement is the expired mandate of Walter Gutiérrez as head of the Ombudsman, after holding the position since 2016.
“Since September 7, 2021, he has been usurping the position of Ombudsman, the date on which his mandate expired, with which he should be relegated from any type of action at the head of this institution.”, they indicate.
“We demand that Congress prioritize the culmination of the process of electing the Ombudsman. Waiting, in this case, suitability in the position and without political overtones that harm the constitutional figure of the Ombudsman”, reads the statement.
Finally, they ask Gutiérrez “to subscribe to his pronouncements to the strict fulfillment of his constitutional functions” and to ensure “timely” the defense of the human rights of citizens “and not shut up when they are raped by coup political parties”.
