For Deputy Martín Melazzi (Colorado Party, Soriano) The Broad Front did not accompany, in the Session of the House of Representatives, the additional paragraphs to the sole article of Law 18,787 on the State’s obligation to provide assistance to homeless people.
The current Law attends to people who are in a situation of complete exposure, at risk of serious illnesses or even risk of death, providing that they be transferred to shelters or other places for proper assistance, even without their consent. For this, a doctor must certify in writing the existence of any of the indicated risks.
The additional paragraphs of the new Bill establish that the State (through MIDES) may also take to a Health Center, with the endorsement of a psychiatrist, those people in a situation of complete exposure, who are affected as consequence of a decompensation of their psychiatric pathology or the consumption of psychoactive substances.
In other words, it is not only intended to help people at risk of life but also people with addictions or mental problems.
It is a pity not to have had the votes of the opposition on such a delicate and sensitive issue for society.
