The delivery of cookies, milk and nutritional cream to more than 400,000 public school students begins next week, after the Comptroller General of the Republic endorsed the contract for the acquisition of these foods, which will also be distributed in the 300 corregimientos contemplated in the Beehive Plan, a program carried out by the National Government.
According to the director of Nutrition and School Health of the Ministry of Education (Meduca), Jaime López, the food will be delivered until December, when the 2022 school year ends, and in 2023, from the first day of the educational period, the Ministry of Education will guarantee the delivery of these products to students, so that they have access to a daily light snack as a complement to their family diet, resulting in better performance in the teaching-learning process.
The school feeding plan is developed in primary schools in the 16 educational regions of the country. In addition to this, in 196 educational centers, in support of 40,000 schoolchildren, the Study Without Hunger program is developed, which entails a complete diet with products and fruits from each region.
School gardens also complement the nutritional status of students, together with the raising of animals such as laying hens and broilers.
The Meduca, from the Department of School Nutrition and Health, emphasizes the promotion of healthy lifestyles in each of the country’s schools, so that students can enjoy adequate nutrition and the health necessary for development of their school skills.
