The French government, through its Ministry of Foreign Affairs, issued an alert this Thursday recommending its citizens “postpone any trip” to Venezuela, due to what it described as a “sensitive security situation” in the country.
The warning comes amid a series of cancellations of international flights to and from Venezuela, after the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issued an advisory urging airlines to “exercise caution” in the face of a “potentially dangerous situation” arising from increased military activity in the region.
In the statement, released by French Diplomacy, it is noted that “several airlines have recently suspended their links with Venezuela”, so French citizens who are already in the country are urged to “check with the airlines to find out the status of the flights.”
France’s recommendations
Among the recommendations issued, the french government advises its nationals to carry their passport and documents that prove the regularity of their stay with them at all times, given the frequent immigration controls in Venezuelan territory. Likewise, they are urged to stay away from political demonstrations, avoid making comments about the internal situation of the country and not expose themselves to unnecessary risks.
The statement also warns that “the security situation in Venezuela can deteriorate quickly,” so it is recommended to stay informed through official sources and avoid unnecessary travel.

In addition, it is advisable to avoid any political demonstrations or meetings and stay informed about the political and security situation. Likewise, it is recommended to abstain to express opinions about the political situation Venezuelan during her stay in Venezuela.
Finally, given the recurring risks of electricity and water outages, as well as fuel shortages, especially outside of Caracas, it is recommended:
- find out about fuel supply points and refuel vehicles regularly;
- Carry sufficient supplies of water, food and medicine, and ensure that the batteries of all available communication devices are charged.
