The former chief of custody of the President of the Republic, Luis Lacalle Pou, was designated in a resolution signed by the Secretary of the Presidency, Álvaro Delgado, in which he is established as such, despite the fact that the Deputy Secretary, Rodrigo Ferrés, tried to deny that he held such a position in his appearance in the Senate this week.
In resolution P/8 of March 12, 2020, which was accessed by various media outlets, it is read that Alejandro Astesiano (today prosecuted with prison) was designated as “attached to the Secretary of the Presidency of the Republic”, Álvaro Delgado.
In addition, the appointment establishes that the former head of security could collect compensation (according to the 2005-2010 Budget Law), and it was signed by Delgado himself.
It is read in the document that the seconded contracted by the Presidency of the Republic must “Collaborate with the President of the Republic, Secretary and Pro-Secretary of the Presidency of the Republic, for the term that they determine and not beyond their respective mandates.”
‘Pacha’ Sánchez accuses Ferrés of lying
In the appearance session of Ferrés (along with the head of State Intelligence, Álvaro Garcé, and the Minister of the Interior, Luis Alberto Heber) he said that Astesiano was not head of presidential security.
However, the Frente Amplio senator, Alejandro ‘Pacha’ Sánchez, presented a document in which he is mentioned as such.
“Here we were lied to. Mr. Ferrés has just lied. Because here I have Decree PS/89”, replied Sánchez in reference to the resolution that designates the delegation that accompanied Lacalle Pou to the Congo. That document, dated December 23, 2021, mentions Astesiano as ‘head of Presidential Security’”, Sanchez said.
Additionally, Astesiano used personal business cards that read that he was “Chief of Presidential Security”.
