Statement on the dismissal of Victor Bjorgan
Delgado referred to the dismissal of Víctor Bjorgan as director of International Cooperation of the Secretariat of Strategic Intelligence of the State, after having publicly expressed his support for the candidate Yamandú Orsi, of the Frente Amplio, ahead of the runoff. In this regard, Delgado expressed: “Freedom is free and everyone can do what they want. Now, to justify what is done that is not correct, you cannot rely on lies.
In turn, Delgado alluded to the rules that govern political neutrality in intelligence positions and how taking a partisan position generates incompatibilities with the trust necessary to perform these functions. “Not only because there is distrust, but also because there is incompatibility with doing politics,” he added, emphasizing that in his opinion, those who hold positions of this type should refrain from participating in party activities.
Relationship with the United States
In the international context, Delgado also took the opportunity to talk about Trump’s victory and its impact on bilateral relations between the United States and Uruguay. He recalled the commercial advances that had been achieved during the Republican’s previous presidency and expressed his expectation that Trump’s re-election will benefit Uruguay in terms of exports of services, especially in technology and information.
“Today, the United States has become the main export destination for Uruguayan services,” said Delgado, who also pointed out his desire to strengthen the relationship between both countries, in a collaboration that he considered key to the economic development of Uruguay in the professional services sector.
