The delegations of the national government and the opposition unitary platform will travel to Norway, between June 21 and 22, to participate in the Oslo Forum, as confirmed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of that country it’s a statement.
This is the first formal meeting attended by both delegations after the freezing of the negotiations in Mexico in October 2021, after the demand of the administration of Nicolás Maduro to the United States for the release of the Colombian businessman Alex Saab, whom they identify as his diplomatic.
Norway has served as a mediator in the Venezuelan conflict since 2020, first in its own country, then in the Dominican Republic and now in Mexico, which has been hosting the talks since 2021.
Norwegian Chancellor Anniken Huitfeldt will host the Oslo Forum, which brings together some 100 conflict mediators, high-level decision-makers, experts and peace process actors from around the world.
“The geopolitical situation has changed drastically in recent years. The world hasn’t been this polarized since the Cold War. This year’s Oslo Forum will focus on how to create opportunities to promote peaceful solutions in a polarized world,” said Huitfeldt.
Topics for discussion at this year’s Oslo Forum will include developments in the Middle East, Ukraine, Afghanistan, Yemen, Venezuela and Ethiopia, as well as other conflict areas.

As reported Associated Pressresuming the dialogue agenda includes the evaluation and removal of certain United States licenses, sanctions against key officials and the release of Alex Saab, among other issues.

After a letter where the US government approves the shipment of Venezuelan oil to Europe through the Eni and Repsol companies, Nicolás Maduro asserted that these are “light” but “significant” steps.
The Biden administration also approved on June 17, the lifting of sanctions against Carlos Erik Malpica Flores, nephew of the Venezuelan first lady, Cilia Flores, and former treasurer of the Nation. He was singled out for alleged links to money laundering operations and sanctioned by the US in 2017.
Meanwhile, the Unitary Platform has reiterated its willingness to “urgently” build a great political agreement that allows the recovery of the country through democratic re-institutionalization, while insisting on the holding of free, fair and transparent elections; as well as the restitution of fundamental rights.
