The government of São Paulo announced this Friday (28) that civil police officer Osvaldo Nico Gonçalves will take over the state’s Public Security Secretariat. Nico is the current executive secretary of the department, and will replace Guilherme Derrite, who left the position and will resume his mandate as federal deputy.
The measure, which will take effect next week, allows Derrite to return to the National Congress definitively.
Derrite had already anticipated his departure by taking on the rapporteurship of the anti-faction bill, approved in the Chamber of Deputies on the 18th.
Nico Goncalves was general delegate of the Civil Police in April 2022. In the current government, he accompanied the dispersion of Cracolândia in the center of the capital of São Paulo and police operations on the coast of São Paulo, such as Verão and Escudo, criticized by civil society organizations for the high police lethality.
