Vice President Delcy Rodríguez highlighted that gas demand in Latin America and the Caribbean is projected to grow 132%, an issue that Venezuela could take advantage of commercially due to its gas reserves. Vice President Delcy Rodríguez assured this Thursday, October 9, that the country is working on “projects with important transnationals” to complete the export of Venezuelan gas.
The official emphasized, during her participation in the 14th International Gas Forum, held in Russia, that Venezuela is home to the largest gas reserves on the American continent and ranks eighth globally. Furthermore, he said, efforts are being made to classify these reserves as the fourth largest in the world.
Last July, Rodríguez indicated that they are managing a project with Shell and NGC, the state company of Trinidad and Tobago, for the exploitation of gas in the Dragon Field, located in the Gulf of Paria (Sucre state), which would allow exports in 2027.
The initial operation contemplates the production of 150 million cubic feet per day, with the goal of reaching 300 million. The contract guarantees Venezuela at least 45% of gross gas revenues, in addition to royalties ranging from 20% to 30%.
Likewise, the Shell company is waiting for a new license from the United States to resume preliminary work on the exploitation of the gas field in deep waters in Venezuela, as learned by the agency Bloomberg. The White House revoked oil and gas licenses in April to try to increase pressure on the administration of Nicolás Maduro, which Donald Trump’s government links to drug cartels.

The vice president took advantage of her space in the forum to accuse the United States of wanting to “take over the planet’s hydrocarbons,” especially from Russia and Venezuela, which, she said, concentrate 24% of the world’s energy.
