The executive vice president of the Republic, Delcy Rodríguez, confirmed that Venezuela rejects the Paris Arbitration Award of 1899 and therefore continues to defend its historical rights over the Essequibo.

The Minister for Petroleum also warned that today the Government of Guyana, in collusion with the British and the Americans, seeks to validate it “to steal our immense energy wealth in that territory.”
Likewise, he affirmed that the only mechanism to resolve the territorial controversy is the 1966 Geneva Agreement.
The vice president recalled that on December 3, in a great national consensus, the Venezuelan people came to vote in the referendum in favor of defending the territory of Guayana Esequiba within the framework of the 1966 Geneva Agreement.
