In a massive event in front of the La Campiña Complex, the Executive Vice President and Minister of Hydrocarbons, Delcy Rodríguez, asserted that “if the US Government wants Venezuela’s oil and gas, it has to pay for it and it must do its accounts correctly”, a forceful message addressed to the US administration after Donald Trump’s recent statements about the country’s energy resources.
In this sense, Rodríguez reaffirmed that national sovereignty is not up for negotiation and that any access to Venezuelan hydrocarbons must go through legal and fair commercial channels.
During his speech, he made a historical review, where he compared the current claims with the dictatorship of Juan Vicente Gómez, a time in which foreign powers extracted crude oil without paying royalties or taxes.
“They say that the oil belongs to them because they had servile and puppet governments to deliver the resources, but they met with President Chávez, who had a sovereign energy policy,” Rodríguez assured.
Meanwhile, the president of Petróleos de Venezuela (PDVSA), Héctor Obregón, highlighted that the congregations were held in different states of the country in rejection of the actions of President Donald Trump, in addition to stating that, as in 2002, the hydrocarbon workforce is trained to guarantee the operation of all areas of the energy sector and contribute to the development of the national economy.
Working class in defense of sovereignty
The day was marked by simultaneous concentrations in various operational areas of the country. Workers from PDVSA, the Ministry of Hydrocarbons and its subsidiaries mobilized to reject what they described as “fascist and imperial actions” that seek to turn Venezuela into an energy colony.
Institutional support
Likewise, the oil working class, through a statement, condemned Washington’s intentions to seize the nation’s natural resources, where they also committed to guaranteeing the continuity of production and the defense of national sovereignty from their jobs.
The mobilization concluded with a call for national unity in the face of external pressures, in which they reiterated that the energy wealth of the Venezuelan subsoil belongs exclusively to its people.
