The interim president of Venezuela, Delcy Rodriguezreceived on Monday the head of the diplomatic mission of USA in Caracas, as part of the process of resuming bilateral relations, reported the Venezuelan Minister of Communication.
The relationship between Caracas and Washington took a turn with Rodríguez, who assumed power after the capture of Nicolas Maduro during a US military operation on January 3.
“This meeting at the Miraflores Palace has been held within the framework of the work agenda between the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and the United States of America,” indicated the minister. Miguel Pérez Pirela in your Telegram account.
The ambassador Laura Dogu arrived in the country on Saturday to resume relations broken in 2019 by the deposed Maduro, now imprisoned in the United States to face charges of drug trafficking.
Dogu heads the American mission, although in principle her role will be as chargé d’affaires.
“My team and I are ready to work,” Dogu wrote in Spanish on the X account of the embassy in Caracas.
US President Donald Trump says he speaks frequently with Rodríguez and refers to her as a “formidable” person.
Rodríguez gave control of oil to the United States, a demand from Trump, in addition to promoting a reform to the Hydrocarbon law that makes controls more flexible and opens the door to private investment.
He also announced a general amnesty and the closure of the Helicoide prison, denounced as a torture center.
The president in charge has removed senior military leaders and ministers. Among those dismissed is Alex Saaba Colombian businessman who was imprisoned in the United States for money laundering, accused of being an alleged front man for Maduro.
On Monday, Rodríguez appointed the daughter of the powerful Interior Minister Diosdado Cabello, face of the most radical wing of Chavismo, as Minister of Tourism.
